7/1/2015. Wondering Out Loud Wednesday: In light of the quote below, I wonder: What should we provide for ourselves that we’ve allowed government to provide?
“Nations crumble from within when the citizenry asks of government those things which the citizenry might better provide for itself. … [I] hope we have once again reminded people that man is not free unless government is limited. There’s a clear cause and effect here that is as neat and predictable as a law of physics: As government expands, liberty contracts.”
— Ronald Reagan
(1911-2004) 40th US President
Furthermore, how much more are we paying for what we need once we allow government to start providing it?
Can you name at least one example of this?
The cost of health care in the USA has dramatically increased over time. But are we any healthier as a group of people?
According to Wikipedia:
“In 2008 the Commonwealth Fund, an advocacy group seeking greater government involvement in US healthcare, then led by former Carter administration official Karen Davis,[36] ranked the United States last in the quality of health care among similar countries,[37] and notes U.S. care costs the most.[38]”
When it comes to our own home state of South Carolina, we aren’t known for our excellent health care. One source said:
“For overall health care, South Carolina is ranked 33rd out of the 50 states, according to the Commonwealth Fund, a private health foundation working to improve the health care system.”
A law on the books within the SC Code of Laws dating back to the 1950s and 1960s — Title 40, Chapter 31 — states, “It shall be unlawful for any person whether heretofore licensed or not under the laws of this or any other State to practice naturopathy in this State.”
Obviously, much has changed in 50-60 years, so this law needs to be updated to allow the practice of naturopathy within the state of South Carolina.
We should be completely free and at liberty to choose our own health care.
