Essential Oil Recipes

We make our homemade toothpaste from one of several similar essential oil recipes. The use of essential oil recipes for making our own personal care products came about as a result of the realization that some commercial products may contain chemicals that endanger human health.

Please note that one or more products listed on this page may be available through Amazon.com, with which we have an affiliate relationship.

How This Began

It all started when Vicki received a free report from one of our Terpenators team members.

Vicki learned that some of the commercially-prepared personal care products that had used for years contain some toxic chemicals.

Although she’d suffered for years, she had never made the connection between the products and her health challenges.

She verified the toxicity issue by searching, for example, for the word “parabens” on natural health news sites.

Once the toxicity issue was confirmed, she started a “detox” process by either eliminating the use of the toxic products or substituting natural and homemade products for them.

In polite society, it isn’t very nice — and certainly not healthy — to not to brush one’s teeth. So, Vicki has listed her essential oil recipes for her homemade version below.

Essential Oil Recipes for Homemade Toothpaste

  • 8 Tablespoons baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon stevia powder
  • 20 drops Young Living essential oil (or to taste)
  • 4 Tablespoons coconut oil

Young Living's Peppermint essential oilMix the first three ingredients together. Then blend in the coconut oil.

Vicki uses a fork and keeps blending the mixture until it becomes somewhat creamy.

To date, she has used the following essential oils in her toothpastes, each used separately:

  • Peppermint essential oil (her favorite);
  • Spearmint essential oil; and
  • Thieves essential oil blend (Mike’s favorite).

Note: the more essential oil you use per batch, the more expensive your toothpaste will be. Also, the more expensive

Vicki has made many batches of homemade toothpaste by following this recipe. We have completely eliminated the use of commercial toothpaste and no longer fear accidental poisoning.

Essential Oil Recipe for Homemade Deodorant

  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • a few drops of Young Living Essential Oil (such as Lavender or Clary Sage)
  • ¼ cup coconut oil

Mix the first three ingredients together. Then blend in coconut oil. Keep blending until smooth.

Some people prefer to use arrowroot powder instead of cornstarch.

Note: In Vicki’s experience, this homemade deodorant does not “glide” on like commercial solids, but has to be “put” in place by hand. One may experiment to determine if adding melted beeswax will help it to glide more smoothly.
